In its golden age tanto was used as an obligatory arms set for samurai. In Japanese, the tanto is a short sword that accurately reflects the essence of it. One interesting fact in the history of tanto, it was forbidden to use the knife for household needs, and it was also used for the world-famous Japanese ritual “seppuku”.
